5 Tips for ERG Leaders: How to Keep Momentum All Year Long
Just finished a call with one of our favorite clients, a dad and ERG leader, who signed off with: “Thank you so much for helping us keep momentum.”
We get it - you’re juggling a full time job, dropoff and pickup, summer camp registration, grandparents, and a regularly infuriating news cycle. It can be hard to create structure and consistency to things that might be viewed as an “extra curricular.” At the same time, leading an ERG presents an opportunity to step in a leadership role and expose your talents to people outside your immediate team. We want you to crush it.
When you’re half way through the calendar year, it’s likely that energy is waning or attentions are redirected. To get you back on track, we’re sharing 4 tips to energize and engage your ERG community. Tell us what you think!
5 tips to energize and engage your ERG community.
Got slack? If you’re using a chat tool for your community, consider dropping weekly engagement questions for everyone to weigh in. One that always get folks talking? What children's books are people loving and hating this month?
Be social. Need to get everyone chatting? Set up a regular social hour for coffee or cocktails. Interacting with friends at work activates our parasympathetic nervous system and can contribute to burnout prevention.
Don’t do this alone. Teams can keep you accountable, motivated and engaged. Consider dividing responsibilities among a few key players (events, communication, etc.) so all the responsibility doesn't all fall on you.
Give Back. Your community may not have a spare hour to attend an event, but they likely have 5 minutes to contribute to a good cause. Poll your community on the organizations or issues that are most important to them and offer opportunities to give back as a collective (Tip: check with your HR partner to see if there are any constraints from corporate, and make sure to take advantage of donation matching!)
Hire Superkin! You knew this was coming, right? Many of our clients book multi-event packages so they’ve got events covered for the calendar year. Mission accomplished.
